Tuxedos are the semi- formal wear suit for men. It’s the most sophisticated way
of dressing. Bridegrooms and their male friends are generally seen wearing the
tuxedos. However, men wear tuxedos in any formal occasion. Tuxedos are also
termed as the “DJs” or ‘dinner jackets’, since they are a ‘must- wear’ dress
code in formal or semi- formal dinner occasions. Tuxedos have been in the men’s
fashion statement since 1860s. The earlier informal dressing got into formal
dressing, after some time it was invented. It has undergone lots of changes over
the period.

Tuxedo terminology
The traditional tuxedo is the aggregation of woolen jacket, accompanied with
trousers switched with same fabric, white formal shirt and black bow. The most
traditional tuxedo is styled single breasted, single button and with peak lapel.
Later on, each of the part of tuxedo got modified little bit. This gave rise to
new fashion styles in tuxedo. The traditional peak lapel got another variant,
which is notch lapel. Generally single breasted tuxedos have this style of
lapel.
Lapel line can be longer that peak or notch style. This is known as shawl
collar. It is round in shape. Single breasted is the most popular and neat
styling in tuxedo. In double breasted style, the outer edge of the coat overlaps
the inner edge. It has two rows of buttons on each of the sides.
The white shirt inside may be stitched in variety of styles. Shirts are white in
color. Cuffs can be linked, button styled or French cuffs. The collar of the
shirt can be wing tip or standard lay down style. The piece of clothing between
the shirt and the jacket is called as vest. Vests are the sleeveless short
jackets having two, three or four buttons. The tuxedo is incomplete without a
bow or tie. Traditionally tuxedo is accompanied with black bow. However, wedding
tuxedos may include ties.
Types of tuxedos
There are various types of tuxedos depending on the occasion, time of the
occasion and whether it is formal or semi- formal event. Finding the right
tuxedo style for the grooms can be difficult task. There are so many types and
therefore, one must choose the wedding tuxedo considering some points.
Semi- formal tuxedo: In a semi – formal wedding, one can wear various types of
coats. These can be dark grey colored or black colored sack coats. A gray waste
coat also looks great on a daytime wedding occasion. It can be coupled with
white standard or pleated shirt. Off- white color looks nice as well.
Accessories play a major part in tuxedo dressing. Grooms can wear business shoes
and gold jewelry on tuxedo.
Semi- formal evening time tuxedo: If the occasion is taking place in a winter
evening, one can choose dark colored tuxedo with white shirt. Coordinating shoes
look classy on this type. On the other hand, if it’s a summer night, try wearing
lighter colored tuxedos. White shirt and long necktie go well with these
tuxedos.
Formal tuxedos: Formal wedding tuxedos include black or gray morning coat. These
are known as the cutaway cost. Stripped trousers, turndown collared white shirt,
gray colored gloves and black leather shoes are the general accessories
accompanying the formal tuxedo.
