Tuxedos are the semi- formal wear suit for men. It’s the most sophisticated way of dressing. Bridegrooms and their male friends are generally seen wearing the tuxedos. However, men wear tuxedos in any formal occasion. Tuxedos are also termed as the “DJs” or ‘dinner jackets’, since they are a ‘must- wear’ dress code in formal or semi- formal dinner occasions. Tuxedos have been in the men’s fashion statement since 1860s. The earlier informal dressing got into formal dressing, after some time it was invented. It has undergone lots of changes over the period.

Tuxedo terminology

The traditional tuxedo is the aggregation of woolen jacket, accompanied with trousers switched with same fabric, white formal shirt and black bow. The most traditional tuxedo is styled single breasted, single button and with peak lapel. Later on, each of the part of tuxedo got modified little bit. This gave rise to new fashion styles in tuxedo. The traditional peak lapel got another variant, which is notch lapel. Generally single breasted tuxedos have this style of lapel.

Lapel line can be longer that peak or notch style. This is known as shawl collar. It is round in shape. Single breasted is the most popular and neat styling in tuxedo. In double breasted style, the outer edge of the coat overlaps the inner edge. It has two rows of buttons on each of the sides.

The white shirt inside may be stitched in variety of styles. Shirts are white in color. Cuffs can be linked, button styled or French cuffs. The collar of the shirt can be wing tip or standard lay down style. The piece of clothing between the shirt and the jacket is called as vest. Vests are the sleeveless short jackets having two, three or four buttons. The tuxedo is incomplete without a bow or tie. Traditionally tuxedo is accompanied with black bow. However, wedding tuxedos may include ties.

A gray waste coat also looks great on a daytime wedding occasion. It can be coupled with white standard or pleated shirt. Off- white color looks nice as well. Accessories play a major part in tuxedo dressing. Grooms can wear business shoes and gold jewelry on tuxedo.

Semi- formal evening time tuxedo: If the occasion is taking place in a winter evening, one can choose dark colored tuxedo with white shirt. Coordinating shoes look classy on this type. On the other hand, if it’s a summer night, try wearing lighter colored tuxedos. White shirt and long necktie go well with these tuxedos.
